Built around the section you apply under

The evidence and the argument differ by section of the Act. Motivus is section-aware from the first question to the final signature.

Section 13 · valid 5 years

Self-defence

For a handgun or a manually operated shotgun, motivated on your real exposure to risk.

  • Grounded in verified crime evidence for your area and precinct
  • Addresses crime that penetrates even high-security estates
  • Explains why your existing firearms don't meet this need
Section 15 · valid 10 years

Occasional sport & hunting

For a handgun, manually operated rifle or manually operated shotgun.

  • Matched to your discipline or intended quarry
  • Calibre and firearm justified on suitability and ballistics
  • Kept within the limits that apply without dedicated status
Section 16 · valid 10 years

Dedicated sport & hunting

For dedicated shooters and hunters - including semi-automatic rifles, carbines and shotguns.

  • Grounded in your association's own equipment rules
  • Division and power-factor argued correctly
  • Dedicated status and endorsements addressed

Without dedicated status you may licence a maximum of four firearms in total across Sections 13 and 15 - and no more than two handguns (one under each section). To go beyond that, or to licence any self-loading rifle or shotgun, you need dedicated hunting or sport-shooting status with an accredited association. Motivus keeps your application within these rules. Read the full breakdown →
