How it works

A motivation is only as strong as its reasoning - and its sign-off. You provide your details once; Motivus does the drafting and legal grounding, and a practitioner does the checking.

01

Tell us your case

A guided intake captures the section you apply under, the firearm, and the circumstances that justify it - your self-defence exposure, or your sport / hunting discipline.

02

We draft it properly

Motivus writes a motivation grounded in the Firearms Control Act and the reasoning the Registrar looks for - including, for self-defence, why the firearms you already hold don't meet this need.

03

An attorney reviews & signs

A practising legal practitioner verifies every claim and citation, corrects anything that needs it, and signs. A real, recorded review - never a rubber stamp.

04

You file with confidence

You receive the completed motivation and the supporting application pack, ready to submit to your Designated Firearms Officer.

Common questions

What people ask

Does an attorney really review my motivation?

Yes. A practising legal practitioner reviews, verifies and signs off every motivation before it is released to you. The practitioner is the author of record; the software assists with drafting.

Is my information kept private?

Your information is processed and stored in South Africa in line with POPIA. Your identity number is encrypted and never reproduced in the text of your motivation.

Does Motivus guarantee my licence will be approved?

No. A strong motivation improves your application, but the decision to grant or refuse rests solely with the Registrar, who has a broad discretion.

Ready to build your motivation?

Start with a guided intake. You'll only be asked what your section and firearm actually require.
